A remarkably genteel woman, Gloria Fay (Ohlhues) Coleman, crossed the veil as gracefully as she lived her life. She was 91.
Born July 9, 1926 to Agnes and Daniel Ohlhues, in Buffalo, NY she was one of seven offspring who all predeceased her including Olive, Daniel, Walter, David, Paul and Lois.
Ohlhues-Coleman attended the Greenbriar College for Women in Lewisburg, WV and then later worked as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company. During that time, she met the love of her life and husband to be, John, and married on March 28, 1949 in Maryland.
A woman of solid principles and faith, motherhood was the path Gloria chose to dedicate her life to and in return it remains her legacy. Bearing nine children within in a 14-year period provided a full-time vocation, she was on call 24 / 7 and lived her life for her husband and children. During those child-rearing years, Gloria’s world was caring for and nurturing her family; overcoming many challenges and sacrificing her personal desires. She was a selfless individual who wanted the best for her children and family.
In 1958, she supported a business venture with her husband and became the co-owner of the Orchard Park Herald Press, then Suburban Press and The Citizen in Orchard Park, NY. Through the years, Gloria and John raised their children in an entrepreneurial environment instilling discipline with hard work, due diligence and reward for a “job well done”.
As a mother, Gloria instilled in her children to be compassionate, have empathy and help those in need. She lived by the motto: “Do unto others as you would have done to you”; she was a fair and strongminded woman, and not willing to compromise her morals or ethics.
Gloria was married for 62-plus years to John, who predeceased her in 2014, She is survived by three sons, Mark, Wellsboro, PA, Jonathan, Stuart, FL, Christopher, Buffalo, NY; five daughters, Adria (Norman) Thomas, Boca Raton, FL, Desiree (Kenneth) Cohrn, Tavares FL, Tara (Paul) Nickel of Honeoye Falls, NY, Melissa (Scott) Smith of Boca Raton, FL and Dana Coleman of Lady Lake, FL.; grandchildren Carissa Nickel, Wesley (Jaclyn) Nickel, Justin (Megan) Thompson, Damon Thompson, Robert Shipman Colin Smith, and Morgan Shipman; and several nieces and nephews.
