Obituary of Marie Franks

Marie Franks, age 99, of Wellsboro, PA, died Friday, April 22, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 16, 1917 in Newark, NJ, a daughter of Andrew and Bertha (Ceasar) Knef. Marie was the widow of George Franks. She worked as a bookkeeper for Towanda Agway. Marie was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Wellsboro, PA. She enjoyed making cookies, embroidery, telling jokes and making people laugh. Marie is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Walter Colton of Wellsboro, PA, Carol Tobey of Wellsboro, PA; 5 grandchildren, John Eric Tobey, Tracy Schiefen, Anne (John) Goodreau, William (Tina) Colton and Nancy (David) Barron; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1977; a son-in-law, John M. Tobey in 2009; 7 brothers and sisters. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 47 Central Ave., Wellsboro, PA with the Rev. David Bechtel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Wellsboro, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Catholic Church or Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Rd., Towanda, PA 18848 in Marie's memory.
