Obituary of Nelle S. Calkins

Nelle Seeley Calkins, age 87, of East Troy, PA, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Twin Oaks, Granville Summit. She was born in Canton, PA on November 23, 1929 to Guy and Alice (Smith) Seeley. After graduating from Canton in 1946, she married Layton Calkins and together raised their children on the family farm until his passing in 1980. Nelle was a wonderful wife and grandmother. She enjoyed attending her children's music and sporting events. Her highlight every year was going to their basketball games, and her favorite thing was attending the Troy Fair to watch her family show their animals. One thing Nelle was noted for was her baked goods, especially her pies. Bingo was her favorite pastime for many years. She was a member of the East Troy Baptist Church. Nelle is predeceased by her husband, Layton; daughter, Mary Ann Murphy, and siblings, Phyllis Stanton and Thomas Seeley. She is survived by her sons, Alfred (Sharon) Calkins of Troy, PA, James (Donna) Calkins of Troy, PA, and Gordon (Margie) Calkins of Columbia Cross Roads, PA; son-in-law, Gerald Murphy of Warren Center; 11 grandchildren, Michael Murphy, Mara Murphy Whitman, Ryan Calkins, Randy Calkins, Christa Calkins Shepard, Diana Calkins, Mary Calkins Rawlins, Gordon Calkins, Layton Calkins; several great grandchildren, step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; sister, Marie Foust, Windfall, PA; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Twin Oaks Personal Care and their staff for the excellent loving care that was given to Nelle the last few years of her life. Also, thanks to Guthrie Hospice for their support services. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Services provided by Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S.
