Obituary of Cynthia Ralston

Cynthia Ralston, age 88, of Covington, PA, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 5, 2021. She was born on June 11, 1933, in Akron, OH, daughter of Ivan and Jean (Garrett) Satow. Formerly of Newtown Square, PA; Binghamton and Lewiston, NY; Orange, CT; and Short Hills, NJ, she spent the last 24 years of her life in Covington, PA. Cynthia received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a gifted artist and avid painter. In Cynthia's early years she painted stage set scenery for the Paper Mill Playhouse and for the Scenic Artists Union in New York City. Depicting the American historical spirit, she took on the challenge of painting large vintage murals on the walls of Radnor High School. The Underground Railroad Museum in Niagara Falls, NY, displays a number of her paintings depicting the bridge used by fugitive slaves crossing to freedom in Canada. Many friends and family felt honored to have their portraits painted by Cynthia. Cynthia applied her artistic talent to positions in advertising, marketing and fashion illustration. She was a Certified Nurse Assistant for the Laurel Health System and a member of the Canoe Camp Church of Christ. An incredible baker, gardener, and decorator, Cynthia always had a project. She designed, built and decorated from the ground up a large Victorian dollhouse. More recently she enjoyed reading with her book club at the Allen F. Pierce Free Library in Troy, her Civil War Roundtable and Presidents Seminar in Mansfield, and her weekly gatherings with the "Friday Girls" film group in Tioga and Bradford Counties. She made a memorable impression on anyone she met and added a flair of creativity to everything she touched. Cynthia will long be remembered for her gregarious and outgoing personality, her probing mind, her quick wit, her generosity to family and friends, and above all, her indomitable spirit. Her family cherishes their memories of yearly vacations in Ocean City, NJ, a tradition she continued from her childhood. Cynthia is survived by her daughters Cheri Roberts of Hopkinton, NH; Beth Ralston of Marlton, NJ; son Edward (Regina) Ralston of Marlton, NJ; and daughter Meg Ralston of Covington, PA; as well as grandchildren David Roberts, Emily Ralston, and Thomas Ralston. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ivan Christian Satow. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in a private setting. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA, is assisting the family.
