Obituary of Douglas J. Burd

Douglas "D.J." J. Burd, age 42, of Mansfield, PA, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 29, 1979 in Hackettstown, NJ, a son of James R. Burd and Kimberly (Maier) Burd. Doug was the husband of Megan (Garrison) Burd, and they enjoyed taking spontaneous trips to Seneca lake and their Sunday morning coffee dates. He also enjoyed spending time and having fun with his kids, his family, and his dog, Carl. If you knew Doug, he had a way of making you a better person. He had an outpouring love for the community and dedicated his life to helping people as a 911 dispatcher, a firefighter, and an EMT. He was also the Assistant Chief of Police for Mansfield borough. Doug's hobbies included snowmobiling, bowling, and working out with his best friend, Mike. Doug is survived by his wife, Megan; his children, Kesslynn and Rhett Landis; his father and stepmother, James and Carol Burd; a brother, Mark (Margo Bailey) Burd of Wellsboro, PA; nephews Derrick and Jarrod Burd; a niece Madison Burd; step siblings Gabriel (Stacie) Strong of Grand Haven, MI, and Miranda (Mark) Wiehagen of Monroeville, PA; several step nieces and nephews; father-in-law Merle"Dick" and Mona Garrison of Mansfield, PA; mother-in-law and father-in-law Shelley (Chris) Ogden of Blossburg, PA; sisters-in-law Taylor (Brett) Mengee of Wellsboro, PA, and Garri Lee (Meghan Chesney) Ogden of Blossburg, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kimberly (Maier) Burd. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, May 6, 2022, from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. at the Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc., 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA. A time of sharing will be held immediately following the visitation at 6 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield Hose Company 381 S.
