Obituary of Frederick L. Messing

Frederick L. Messing, age 93, of Millerton, PA, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Broad Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA after a full life. He was born January 25, 1921 in Wells Twp., Bradford County, PA, as the 3rd child of Walter and Maude (Miller) Messing. Fred and his wife, Irene (Rumsey) Messing celebrated 70 years together on August 2nd, 2013. Upon graduation from the Elmira Business Institute, he was employed at LeValley McCloud in Elmira, NY for over thirty years. He also operated a local cable company, repaired televisions and made maple syrup. He enjoyed giving back to his community, as one of the founders of the Daggett Fire Dept. and original volunteer fireman. Fred served on the Northern Tioga School Board, as the Jackson Township Supervisor and the Jackson Township Tax Collector. As an active member and treasurer of the Daggett United Methodist Church for over seventy years, he volunteered on the Building and Grounds Committee, Parsonage Committee, and was the Trustee, among many other activities. With his wife, they acted as caretakers of the Daggett Cemetery for over twenty years. Fred was an avid hunter who shot his last deer at 90 years of age, and enjoyed trapping and fishing in his youth. As a fan of sports, he particularly loved baseball ad fondly remembered his playing time at Millerton as a young man. Later in his life, he loved traveling with his wife and cherished time with his family. Fred is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Tom Nickeson of Bicknell, UT, and Lisa and Mark Tuttle of Redmond, WA. He is further survived by 5 grandchildren, William Linder, Heather Linder Spring, Stephanie Tuttle, Jennifer Tuttle, Daniel Tuttle, and their dog, Barney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Herman and Charles Messing. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. at the Daggett United Methodist Church with Rev. Jennifer Wolf officiating. A reception will follow at 12:30 P.M. at the church.
