Obituary of Shirley Hietala

Shirley K. Hietala, age 80, of Wellsboro, PA, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. She was born January 2, 1934 in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, a daughter of Myrton and Matie (Tidyman) Duel. Shirley is survived by 2 sons; Ward Hietala (Mirjana) of Duluth MN, Charles Hietala (Debra) of St Petersburg Fl; a daughter, Robin Dudzik, of Wellsboro Pa; a brother, Dale Duel of Chicago Il; a sister, Janet Chandler of Colorado Springs Co; sisters in law, Pearl Duel of Phoenix Az, and M. Chris Duel of McHenry Il; 2 grandchildren, Jeff Hietala and Amy Hietala. She was predeceased by her husband, Kayo R Hietala; 2 brothers, Don Duel and Ward Duel. Shirley was a teacher and a social worker before her retirement. She was a member of the Niles Valley Methodist Church in PA, and the Holcombe United Methodist Church in WI. Before moving to PA, Shirley was very active in her community. She was always available to volunteer and received recognitions for her community involvement. She was an active member of the Lake Holcombe Lions Club. Shirley enjoyed yard work, gardening and sewing. A memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Lake Holcombe United Methodist Church, Lake Holcombe, WI.
