Obituary of Steven C. Case

Steven C. Case, age 64, of Mansfield, PA, died on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Medstar Washington Hospital in Washington, DC. He was born September 4, 1951 in Cincinnati, OH, son of Charles and Estelle (Bryan) Case. Steven was an American Baptist Minister, having been ordained in 1978 following graduation from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. He served as pastor of the Grace Baptist Church of Westmont, NJ for 25 years followed by 8 years as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, PA before retiring in 2013. Steve served his denomination in various capacities, sitting on the boards of several committees of the American Baptist Churches USA throughout his career. During his ministry at Grace Baptist, he was called upon to serve as Chaplin for the Westmont Fire Hall and many other community organizations. One of his greatest joys was directing a bike camp to Martha's Vineyard (1978-1985) for youth sponsored by the NJ Baptist Camp Lebanon programs. Most recently, since 2005 he served on the board of the Baptist Joint Committee (BJC), a national education and advocacy association that promotes religious liberty and upholds the principles of church and state separation, having been president from 2007-2009. Steve's life work and passion always focused on being a champion for the common good, truth and justice. Steven is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Diane (Taylor) Case of Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will be held to honor Steve on Monday, November 16th at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. Visitation begins at noon, followed by services at 1:00 PM.
