Obituary of Marie A. Spencer

Marie A. Spencer, age 78, was brought home by God on January 15, 2019 at Soldier and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Marie was the daughter of Clair and Gladys (Benauer) Butler born on January 24, 1940 in Blossburg, PA. She worked outside of the home for many years, but also enjoyed crafts, decorating, flowers, and her cats and dogs. She loved Christmas and had a huge tree every single year that brought her and everyone who visited joy. Marie loved to travel, including road trips, and was a big Elvis fan. She had a great sense of humor and loved long chats with her friends. She had the most beautiful handwriting and always had the perfect card to send. She and her husband Charles celebrated over 60 years of marriage. Besides her many interests, more than anything, Marie loved spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie is survived by her husband Charles; daughters Julie Irwin of Wellsboro, PA, Penny (Jay) James of Dallas, TX, and Kelly (Duane) Herr of Ulysses, PA; grandchildren Christopher, Michael, and Brandon; and great grandchildren Christopher and Lucas. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Harry and Aryntha (Rankin) Benauer, who raised her after the death of her parents, brother Clifford Butler, and son-in-law Donald Irwin. A private service will be held at the family's convenience. Contributions may be made to assist with funeral expenses.
