Obituary of Rena Alice Abel

Rena Alice Abel, age 90, of Knoxville, PA, formerly of Elmira Heights and Big Flats, NY, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at her home. She was born on January 30, 1932 in Elmira, NY, a daughter of Arthur and Elvira (Spearan) Seymour. Rena was married to the late Richard "Red" Earl Abel, Sr. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing. She was a school bus driver for Horseheads School District. Rena enjoyed crocheting, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and daily crossword puzzles. Rena is survived by her son, Richard Earl (Susan) Abel, Jr., of Narragansett, RI; four daughters, Ruth Groves of Millport, NY, Rhonda (Bill) Rehrig of Nesquehoning, PA, Roberta Carl of Waverly, NY, and Rebecca (Greg) Heck of Knoxville, PA; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Russell Abel; a sister, Betty Benson; and five brothers, Arthur Seymour, Jr., Albert Seymour, Merritt "Skeet" Seymour, Frank Seymour, and Howard Seymour. In honoring Rena's wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to an animal shelter of one's choice. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA is assisting the family.
