Obituary of Ivan Dwight Mathewson

Ivan Dwight Mathewson took his last breath on earth and his first breath in heaven on July 11, 2024. He was born May 25, 1929 in Hermon, NY He followed God's call into the ministry by attending Practical Bible Training School in Vestal, NY. He was an ordained Baptist minister who pastored churches in New York, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. He retired as a pastor from Roseville Baptist Church in 1999, but continued for several years to preach the gospel at various churches as they needed the pulpit filled. He was a member of the Bakerburg Community Church, and preached his last sermon in the Sunday Evening Service on October 1, 2023. He shared his love for the Lord with everyone he met, and often handed out "Smile, Jesus Loves You" booklets. Many lives have been forever changed by his ministry. Ivan met the love of his life, Lois Bundy, at Practical Bible Training School. They were married on December 5, 1950, and were together for 72 years until she went home to be with the Lord April 21, 2023. He was her faithful caregiver for the last months of her life. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. His most noted accomplishments were bagging 100 deer and supplying the church with enough fish for their annual fish fry. He enjoyed tending to his garden and beautifying his yard. He loved flowers and often brought a bouquet in to share with Lois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lena Mathewson, sister Gladys Stroup, and brother Maynard Mathewson. He is survived by brother Clyde Mathewson of Lakewood, FL; daughters Kathy (Chris) Anthony of Des Moines, IA, Joyce (Mike) Lowe of Belton, MO, and Eileen (Rob) Lake of Ashville, NC; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bakerburg Community Church, 197 Gray Valley Road, Mainesburg, PA 16932. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Paul Binkley officiating. All are invited to a luncheon following the service. Burial will take place in the Roseville Cemetery, Roseville, PA. Memorial donations may be made to the Bakerburg Community Church missions fund.
