Obituary of John J. Blass

, age 74, of Galeton, PA died Monday December 21, 2009. He was born January 9, 1935 to Herbert and Crescence (Yeager) Blass. John was retired from PENNDOT where he was employed as an equipment operator and foreman for 25 years. Prior to that, he was employed by the WAG and the Pennsylvania Railroad. Living his life in Potter County, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and a wonderful story-teller. He was a life-time member of the Running Bear hunting camp. He was a founding member of the Gale Hose Ambulance company as well as a member of the West Hill Cemetery Association. He also served as Potter County Commissioner. John contributed many years as a Little League coach. John was predeceased by his wife, Janet (Meholczo) Blass and a daughter Vicki. He is survived by daughter Debra (John) Simonetti of Ulysses, PA, son Jeff (Trixie) Blass of Galeton, PA, son Daniel Blass of Mesa, AZ, daughter Sheila Blass of Sarasota, FL and sister Janice (Jim) Petersen of Renovo, PA, as well as his grandchildren John, Jacob and Joshua Blass, Breana Simonetti and Audrey Blass. In keeping with Johns wishes, there will be no services. The family is being assisted by the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gale Hose Ambulance Company or Potter County Hospice.
