Obituary of Duane R. Johnson

Rev. Duane R. Johnson, age 69, of Gillett, PA died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at his home. Duane was born February 3, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of Roy and Ethel (Mangel) Johnson. He was the husband of Jean (Holmes) Johnson celebrating their 49th anniversary on February 14th. Duane was the interim pastor at the First Baptist Church of Bentley Creek at the time of his death. Duane also served as pastor at Trinity Baptist Church, Scranton; Coryland Church, Columbia Cross Roads; Chesterland Baptist Church, Ohio; and Union Church, Ship Bottom, NJ. He volunteered for Western Alliance Ambulance Service and served on their board. Duane sang with the Mansfield Mens Chorus and Higher Ground Quartet. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and traveling. Duane was a U.S. Army veteran. Duane is survived by his wife, Jean of Gillett, PA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Johnson of Gillett, PA, Jonathan and Diana Johnson of Chandler, TX, Jason and Sharon Johnson of Mainesburg, PA; six grandchildren, Dannielle, David, Denae, Taylor, Victoria, and Nathaniel; one step grandson; Jeremy; two sisters, Katherine Abate of Pittsburgh, PA, Dorothy and Bud Streck of OK. He was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy Rochelle in 1962. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, April 27, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Coryland Church. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation at 4:00 P.M. with the Rev. Gary Zuber officiating. Burial will be in Baptist Hill Cemetery.
