Obituary of Erferd Robert Townsend

Erferd Robert Bob Townsend, age 69, of Wellsboro, PA died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Broad Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA after a very quick illness. Bob was born March 28, 1941 in Elmira, NY, a son of Erferd and Hazel (Clark) Townsend. Bob is survived by his wife, Evalyn (McMullen) Morral Townsend; his children and step-children, Allyn and Calette (Fleming) Townsend, Denise and Raymond Shelmire, Brian and Dianna Townsend, Erin and Melissa Morral, Becky Morral and Chad Jelliff; his grandchildren, Trisha Plank, Danielle and Ronald Southard, Brianna and Fred Palmer, Bradley Townsend, Allyn Townsend, Jr., Colby Shelmire, Gavyn Jelliff and Derek Morral; his great grandchildren, Caylin, Tanner, Makenna and Allee; brother, Ronald and Tillie Townsend; sister, Sue and Damon Creamer; brother-in-law, Burton Crawford; brother-in-law, Thomas and Linda McMullen, sister-in-law, Kathy McMullen; former spouse/friend, Linda Abernathy; many nephews, nieces and cousins, and adopted children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Winifred Crawford, and a brother-in-law, Scott McMullen. Bob was a graduate of Wellsboro Class of 1959. He served in the US Marine Corp from 1959 to 1963 and was employed at Jacks Wheel Alignment from 1964 through 1981 and owned Jacks Wheel Alignment for several years after before becoming a truck driver. He drove for 14 years. Bob then became a delivery driver for Houghtalings Garage, from where he retired in 2005. He enjoyed every minute of his retirement, from tinkering in his work shop to visiting with anyone who wanted to stop and talk. He enjoyed his horse, Sunny, and loved camping with his friends at Tanglewood Campgrounds where he would spend hours riding his golf cart around the grounds giving rides to his grandchildren, other kids and anyone else he could get to ride with him, or riding with his friends on their trail rides. Bob loved cooking breakfast over the fire, going for long drives on roads he had never been on, and checking out deals at yard sales. He loved his family, all of his many friends and will be so greatly missed by all. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services.
