Obituary of Genevieve Elizabeth Sumner

Genevieve Elizabeth Betty Sumner, age 85, of Mansfield, PA, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at The Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. Betty was born December 1, 1926 in Blossburg, PA, a daughter of George Fred and Edith VanZile. She married Omer R. Sumner on September 21, 1947 and celebrated their 65th anniversary this year. Betty dedicated her life to the care of family and friends. She enjoyed her garden, flowers, bird watching, family gatherings and dinners. Betty is survived by her husband, Omer; a son, Gary Sumner of Wellsboro, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Warren Meaker of Palmyra, NY; former daughter-in-law, Gwen Freeman; a niece, Marie Cummings of Wellsboro, PA; special niece, Joyce (Dale) Howey of Wellsboro, PA; a granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth (Sumner) (Abdel) (Marcus) Oueddir; two great grandchildren, Lillyana and Ayman; several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers; Fred and Arthur VanZile; a niece, Anna Howey; 4 brothers-in-law, Dick Frank, Ralph, Ray and Bob Sumner; 4 sisters-in-law, Ruth Thomas, Bernice Cleveland, Ethel Verbanic and Dorothy Sumner. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA.
