Obituary of Doug Dart

H. Douglas Doug Dart, age 88, of Mansfield, PA, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Doug was born April 27, 1924 in Wellsboro, PA, a son of Hiram and Ruth (Thompson) Dart. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ellen (Booth) Dart. Doug was employed as an electrical contractor for Dyer Electric for 17 years. Following that employment he became the head of refrigeration and air conditioning in the Maintenance Department of Mansfield University for 17 years and drove for Endless Mountains Transportation Authority (EMTA) for 17 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WWII and served as Commander of Post 478 of the American Legion. Doug served as the local Commander (Mansfield) and National Commander for Dads of Foreign Service Veterans. He was instrumental in designing and building the Mansfield Veterans Memorial Park for which he received the Max Colegrove Citizen of the Year Award in 2005 which is sponsored by The Greater Mansfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Doug was a member of the Mansfield Library Board, a founding member of the Mansfield Area Recreation Association (MARA) and served as a former assistant chief for the Mansfield Fire Department. He also served several terms as judge of elections for Mansfield Borough. Doug attended the First Baptist Church of Mansfield. Doug is survived by his wife, Ellen; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Bruce and Nancy Dart of Mansfield, PA, Larry Booth Dart of Virginia Beach, VA, Timothy Dart of Mansfield, PA; a daughter, Sue Ellen Nieland of Rosemount, MN ; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Steven Douglas Dart in 1999 and his wife, Deborah Dart. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at the funeral chapel at 3:00 PM with Rev. Steven C. Case and Rev. Rowena Gibbons officiating.
