Obituary of Marjorie Rebecca Swanson

Marjorie Rebecca Swanson On Monday, June 10, 2013, Tioga resident Marjorie Rebecca Swanson went home to her Heavenly Father. Born in Breezewood, PA on March 16, 1923, she is the daughter of Charles E. and C. Helen (Salkeld) Clark. She was the widow of Carl Arthur "Art" Swanson. Before her retirement, she was employed by Citizens and Northern Bank, Wellsboro, PA and Remington Rand in Elmira, NY. Marjorie was a 34 year member of the Tioga Grange. She attended the East Lawrence Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, PA and the First Baptist Church in Tioga, PA. She was a volunteer for many years in the Back Yard Good News and Ives Run summer CEF clubs; school CEF; and Vacation Bible School. As children, she and her twin sister, Peggy, sang on the radio and at numerous community events. On train trips to Ohio, the Porter would find them, take them to the dining car and stand them on a table to sing for the passengers. Margie spent countless hours teaching her children and grandchildren to sing, carrying on that legacy. She played an important role helping to raise her grandchildren, reading the same bible stories she read to her own children. She was also a wonderful cook. One of her greatest joys was her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild including extended family. Surviving is her son, Carl L. Swanson of Tioga, PA; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn (Rich) Bowers, Millerton, PA, Christine Swanson, Tioga, PA, Joyce (Ronald) Stephens, Tioga, PA; Grandchildren, Eric T. Swanson, Ted and Tim Bowers, Robyn Bowers Hill; Rebecca Wells Stone, Mark Wells and Lori Wells Beier; Aaron and Lindsay Stephens, David Beatty; 14 Great Grandchildren; one Great Great Grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Ada) Clark of Breezewood, PA; her twin sister, Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Carleton, Mansfield, PA; and sister, Betty Wilt of Breezewood, PA. She was predeceased by her husband, "Art", in 2004, a brother, Charles Dean Clark, and grandson, Joel A. Stephens in 1998. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the East Lawrence Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, PA. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Pastor G. Victor Perry officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Tioga, PA.
