Obituary of Delores Bailey-Gross

Dolores "Sis" (Harper) Bailey, 91, from Nauvoo, PA died March 2, 2016 at The Williamsport Home. She was born August 24, 1924, in McKeesport, PA, a daughter of Oron Harper and Emma (Evans) Harper, and step-father, John Kinzel. Dolores moved to Wellsboro, PA with her parents where she met and married her late husband, Donald L. Bailey. They had three daughters. Sis worked at various jobs in the area. She clerked at Louden's Grocery and Bowen's Grocery stores. She also worked at Galeton Production and Corning Glass. Later she obtained her LPN licenses and worked at Witts Nursing Home in Nauvoo, PA. Sis and her husband, Don, purchased an abandoned century old brick home in Nauvoo in the mid 50's and they both spent many years restoring the place in to a lovely home. She loved to travel, especially when her destination was to visit relatives. Sis loved her home and decorating and became talented in sewing, quilting, wallpapering, and upholstery. She also designed and sold wool doorstop ducks to the Woolrich Store in Woolrich, PA. She graced many family members and friends beds with her beautiful quilts she designed and made. For many years, Sis was active in her church, Grace Chapel. She created and sewed many puppets for the children's hour of the service. Her love of children turned her into a ready-made babysitter for church members after her husband passed. Sis was an amazing cook, from homemade bread to pickles. An invitation to her home left a person with a great meal, a good piece of pie, and a jar of pickles to take home. Sis was a wonderful mother to her three daughters and a good friend to all that knew her. She had a caring loving nature and anyone who knew her was certainly blessed. She is survived by daughters, Penny Bailey Mase, of Wellsboro, Sally Marmara (Kevin) of Nauvoo, and Jan Bailey of Morris; four grandchildren, Ty Mase (Heather) of King Salmon, Alaska, John Mase of Morris, Katie Hefron (Ryan) Nauvoo, and Kevin M. Marmara, Nauvoo. Also, 3 great-grandchildren, Jordan Rall, Harley Mase, and Orin Varano; many nieces and a nephew. Sis was preceded in death by her parents and step-father; two brothers, Clifford "Buck" Harper and Oron Harper. Visitation will be held at Grace Chapel, Oregon Hill from 2:00 to 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 6, 2016, with a memorial service at 2:30 PM at the church. Funeral services are under the direction of Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA 16933. www.buckheitfcandcrematory.com
