Obituary of Gerald A. Newland

Dr. Gerald Anthony Newland, 80, died peacefully of natural causes on August 25, 2016 at Bakercrest Personal Care Home in Millerton, PA. Gerald was born on November 18, 1935, in Boston, MA. His parents Joseph and Josephine, his brother Victor, and his sister, Maria, predeceased him. Gerald earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Human Development at the University of Maryland. He worked for University of Virginia's College at Wise, VA; Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA; Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA; and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. He was a self-taught lover of music, playing the harmonica, guitar, banjo, and piano. He also liked fishing, oil painting, woodworking, and most especially, ice cream. Gerald is survived by his two sons, David and Daniel, as well as dear friends who enjoyed his company the last several years. As Gerald requested to be cremated, no service will be held.
